To enable Swift for enterprise solutions, IBM is making a Swift Package Catalog and runtime available in the cloud for deployment with Bluemix.

Though both are still in preview mode, IBM is hoping it s increasingly deep toolkit for Swift will make deploying apps via the could simple. It also wants to help grow Swift as a server-side language.

Package Manager is especially impressive for a wider range of users. It’s a bit like shopping for Swift tools you want for your app or service, and tells you how to add them to your project. It even surfaces popular packages to make discovery a bit simpler.

IBM says that by offering up more cloud-ready Swift tools, it is “breaking down barriers between front-end and back-end development, which can provide enterprises a single language to build rich experiences and back-end business logic.” It also believes its toolchain will be simpler for deploying end-to-end applications using Swift.

Working with the swift.org community, IBM is focused on bringing concurrency to multicore hardware.
